Most times we were disappointed. But on a rare occasion the stars would align and we would have a phenomenal meal. Transcendental even. Our metrics centered around not the price of the meal, but the experience built into the food. Did it tell a story? Was there a relation to the time and space in which it was created? Was there a degree of culinary expertise required to produce it? Did it evoke a strong emotion? Did it taste incredible?
Much of the details of life go forgotten, but its essence stays with you. We remember not so much what people say but how they made us feel. It is the same with food. A good meal stays with you and stirs the soul.
